Geography of the Panchayat
Chendamangalam is a beautiful area full of rivers, streams and lakes. The Periyar River and the Chalakudy River merge and flow around Chendamangalam. The highest point is Kovilakam Hill in Kottayil, at the eastern end of Chendamangalam. It is a red sandstone area. Almost everywhere else is full of fertile red soil. Full of fields and streams, this place is full of coconuts, bananas, vegetables and caste. In the 14th century Shuka Sandesh, there is a description of traveling through the sugarcane field through Arangau. The place where sugarcane was cultivated using the water collected in the Arangau pond during the rainy season is now called Karimpadam. The sea coast is only six kilometers from the western end of the village. Being at sea level, salt water rises in many places in the summer. Chendamangalam is an area that was affected by floods every year until the construction of the Bhoothathankettu and Idukki dams.
